The world today is moving faster than ever. Sometimes it feels like the earth's rotation is twice what it was only a few years ago. At work, we have projects, deadlines and meetings with what feels like impossible expectations. And then we have personal appointments, health, sports, school and homework, and errands. We feel pressured, overwhelmed, tired, underproductive and stressed. This program is an introduction to a new way of thinking, feeling and behaving that is taking hold across the world in both professional and personal environments. These concepts are being introduced in business and government from Morgan Stanley's Mindful Mondays to Google's "Search Inside Yourself" employee training program to the concept of "A Mindful Nation" being adapted in the UK Parliament, as well as in the U.S. by Congressman Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), author of A Mindful Nation. This high-level program overview will address better focus, productivity, emotional and behavioral intelligence, as well as the concept of professional and personal growth through neuroplasticity.

It is not just in face-to-face interactions where we have to put our best foot forward. The same can be said in written correspondence, more particularly when you are submitting a proposal, an agenda, an executive summary or even an email. The building block of any writing is words. Failure to use words properly can affect the overall impact and tone of your correspondence. This is why agendas and concise correspondence are an integral part in keeping meetings and the workforce focused and organized. Your communications have the power to establish rapport, clarify work intent and even encourage co-workers. Whether you need a business writing refresher or a solid introductory course, this workshop will sharpen your knowledge and skills on current best practices of effective business writing. Participants in this session will:
" Review basic concepts in sentence and paragraph construction
" Know the basic structure of agendas, email messages, business letters, business proposals and business reports
" Know tips and techniques to use when deciding the most appropriate format to use for agendas, email messages, business letters, business proposals and business reports
" Gain an overview of request for proposals, projections, executive summaries and business cases
" Define proofreading and understand techniques in improving proofreading skills
" Define peer review and list ways peer review can help improve business writing skills
" List guidelines in printing and publishing business writing
" Know how to make your writing targeted, well-substantiated, persuasive and organized
" Learn how to choose your words to empower others

This election basics session is intended to introduce clerks to the fundamentals of running a successful election. The first part of this session will cover the roles and responsibilities of the clerk, types of elections, absentee and early voting, managing poll workers and polling locations, what goes into a candidate package, advertising, qualifying, an introduction to campaign financing, the role of the canvassing board, determining election results, and where to direct various complaints. The panel will also be providing a generic checklist of election activities that clerks can tailor to their respective municipalities. The second part of this session will be highly interactive, and will include individual questions submitted to the panel prior to and during the session. Questions may be submitted anonymously. Fear is always a factor in life. While we can all aspire to the fearless pursuit of our goals, real life is about feeling the fear and acting in SPITE of it, which is the true definition of courage. Fear is often a great masquerader that can trick you into thinking you're being prudent; that can talk you out of thinking bigger; that can silence you when your voice is crucial; and that can shut down your ability to dream and hope for the future. If you've ever said, "that'll never change" or "that's just the way it always will be," know that such "always and never" statements are fueled by fear. This course will teach you to:
" Recognize the disguises of fear
" Consider the sources of fear
" Establish a game plan to combat fear
" Strengthen the ability to act in the face of fear
Courage is a muscle that is exercised by use, but as author Brene Brown suggests, there is no courage without vulnerability. Those who wish to face their fears head-on, and are willing to be vulnerable enough to address these bullies of the heart, will find tools in this course to realize their own power (and start using it).
